2012 in Review
We approached the holidays and the new year with heavy hearts, following the tragic events in Newtown, Connecticut. Our hearts go out to the families and friends who have lost loved ones. While we grieve, it is hard not to think about what might have triggered a human being to commit such unconscionable acts. With all the health issues that we know GMOs can cause, I can't help but speculate that GMOs may have in some way been a contributing factor.

Based on Gut and Psychology Syndrome: Natural Treatment for Autism, Dyspraxia, A.D.D., Dyslexia, A.D.H.D., Depression, Schizophrenia by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride, it’s not out of the realm of possibility. Dr. McBride explains how imbalances in gut flora and leaky gut can contribute to psychological imbalances. The Bt toxins genetically engineered into GMO corn & cotton cause the stomachs of insects to explode and have been linked to cell membrane death. RoundUp and Bt toxins are also being found to kill beneficial gut flora. According to Dr. McBride, an imbalance in “bad” gut flora can also lead to leaky gut. Though there is still much to be learned, research is starting to link leaky gut, autoimmune disease, and inflammation to mental illness. While there are other factors that must be considered, is it possible that GMOs contributed? Without thorough long term testing of GMOs and without labels to enable us to make a direct connection, we are left to speculate. Rest in peace, beautiful children and your brave teachers.

GMO Free USA accomplished quite a lot in 2012. We hit our initial membership target of 5,000 group members in July and have since doubled our numbers!

At the end of July, we launched our long term campaign to pressure Kellogg’s to remove GMOs from their products. We also produced our first video, “GMO Labeling Won’t Cost You Anything” in support of Prop. 37.

We helped to fund billboards and some innovative Prop. 37 airplane banners, and provided some back room administrative assistance for the troops on the ground in California prior to the election.

We are going to take GMO Free USA to a new level in 2013. We plan to hit the ground running and are working on a bunch of new things that I hope to share soon. We’ve started working with Yve Golan, the attorney who brought the federal class action lawsuits against Kashi & Naked Juice.

Yve is working to initiate class action suits at the state level in all 50 states. If you purchased these so called “natural” products, or any “organic” baby formula products in the past and are interested in being named in one of these lawsuits, please email me at GMOFreeUSA@gmail.com for more details. To participate, you must be willing to put your own personal interests aside and decline any out of court settlement that may be offered. You must also be able to make a statement about your buying habits, and possibly be deposed. There is no travel required.

Stay tuned for more action and excitement related to the Kellogg’s campaign in 2013! In the meantime, don’t forget to keep the pressure on by carrying out the current actions outlined at www.gmofreeusa.org.

Wishing you and your family a Happy, Healthy & GMO Free New Year!
