FDA SITE - QUIETLY APPROVES FRANKENSALMON OVER 2012 HOLIDAYS

Animal & Veterinary

Genetically Engineered Salmon

FDA has issued for public comment a draft environmental assessment (EA) related to the agency’s review of an application concerning AquAdvantage Salmon, a genetically engineered Atlantic salmon. FDA’s preliminary finding is that an approval of this application, under the specific conditions proposed in the application, would not have a significant impact (FONSI) on the U.S. environment. AquAdvantage Salmon is a product of AquaBounty Technologies (AquaBounty), of Maynard, Mass.

  1. I am outraged that the FDA has approved GMO Salmon for sale with absolutely no risk assessments and long-term safety studies done. GMOs are a dangerous and unproven technology with more than 70 independent studies showing internal organ damage to animals that eat GMO food. As GMO crops have risen in the US since the mid 90s, so too have digestive disorders and food allergies increased substantially. Coincidence? I hardly think so. Once (not if) this salmon escapes into the wild, it'll be game over for wild species. Approval of GM salmon is reckless and dangerous. Shame on you and your total disregard for life on this planet.
