MONSANTO & DUPONT DUKE IT OUT - DUPONT VOWS TO PRESS ON WITH ANTI-TRUST SUIT!

from: St. Louis Business Journal - by Kelsey Volkmann January 18, 2010 (excerpts)
U.S. District Court Judge Richard Webber decided that license agreements between the two companies contain an implied term that prohibits DuPont from stacking one if its proprietary genetic trait products, called Optimum GAT, with Monsanto’s Roundup Ready trait in soybeans or corn.

DuPont said its separate antitrust and patent fraud claims filed against Monsanto in June 2009 aren’t affected by Friday’s ruling and will proceed.

“This litigation is just the beginning. We will now vigorously pursue our antitrust, license and patent fraud claims,” DuPont Senior Vice President and General Counsel Thomas Sager said in a statement Saturday. “Monsanto’s efforts in the litigation make its intent crystal-clear: to deny independent seed companies and America’s farmers the ability to create and plant the seeds that work best for them.”

OBAMA: STOP MONSANTO! WE BELIEVE IN GMO-FREE FOOD NOW!!

Obama USDA Poised to Take Away Our Right to GMO-Free Food
-by Ronnie Cummins, Founder, Director of the Organic Consumers Association (OCA)
Huffington Post January 21, 2010

Don't believe Monsanto's green-washing. Genetically modified organisms (GMOs), aren't meant to feed the world or survive the evermore frequent droughts and floods brought on by global warming - they're designed to sell Monsanto's herbicide Roundup and the patented "Roundup Ready" genes now spliced into millions of acres of corn, cotton, soy, canola, sugar beets and alfalfa. A 2009 study showed that, in 13 years, Roundup Ready crops increased herbicide use by 383 million pounds.

During the Bush administration, the movement to stop GMOs was making progress. Reflecting public concern over GMOs, in 2007, a Federal court ruled that the Bush USDA's approval of Roundup Ready alfalfa violated the law because it failed to analyze risks such as the contamination of conventional and organic alfalfa and the development of "super-weeds." The court banned the planting of GM alfalfa until USDA completed a rigorous analysis of these impacts. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals twice affirmed the national ban on Roundup Ready alfalfa planting, but Monsanto is appealing. They're taking organic alfalfa farmers all the way to the Supreme Court!

We must stop the Obama administration from taking away our right to grow and consume organic and GMO-free food. http://capwiz.com/grassrootsnetroots/mailapp/
The "change we believe in" is a healthy and sustainable future based upon organic food and farming and a green economy.

Scientist Find Many Negative Impacts of Roundup Ready GM Crops: Report

What the USDA doesn't want us to know. SDS, Sudden Death Syndrome, is being found in root fungi that are necessary to fix nitrogen in the soils for needed crop nutrients.

EMISSIONS REPORT from UK Food: Higher Than Believed

18 January 2010

*New report finds technology and behavioural changes required to cut emissions from food*

The food we eat accounts for 30% of the UK’s carbon footprint, according to a new report published today by WWF-UK and the Food Climate Research Network. Previous estimates put the figure closer to 20%, but this study is the first to incorporate land use change overseas, increasing the estimate of emissions attributed to food consumption in this country from 152MtCO2 to 253MtCO2.

Land use change, mainly deforestation, is a major source of climate changing emissions. Each year world-wide, an area of forest equivalent to half of England is lost. The expansion of the food system is the biggest driver behind this as land is cleared to grow crops and rear animals.

Given the extent of food consumption on the UK’s overall emissions, WWF-UK and the FCRN are calling for a radical change to the country’s food system to help stop deforestation and reduce the scale of emissions from the food chain.
