October 6, 2011 Shary and Gary Skoloff have spent forty-four years creating an organic farm in Susquehanna, PA. Their intent was to transfer the farm to the next generation, but their dream is now severely jeopardized by three gas drilling wells in the area and imminent construction of pipelines nearby. Once the pipelines are completed the wells surrounding the farm will be fracked. Tell Obama and the Governors, who have a vote, that we don't want our region's farmland to into industrial zones! A fracking well in Bradford County, PA failed, leaking toxic fracking fluid onto nearby farmland and into a local stream. Seven families had to evacuate their homes and livestock were put at risk. Besides posing a threat to water supplies that farms rely on, open wastewater pits have poisoned livestock and pets. The government has ignored the effects of fracking on the food supply. Shary asks you to tell our politicians that it is irresponsible and unconscionable to sacrifice the health and well-being of people and the environment for political and financial gain. President Obama and the governors from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware can influence whether to allow fracking in the Delaware River Basin. On October 21, the Delaware River Basin Commission — comprised of representatives appointed by each governor and Obama — will convene for a vote on proposed regulations. We will hold each elected official accountable for how their representative votes. Send them the message today that they must vote against fracking which poses serious threats to water supplies that local farms depend on.
