Recently there has been huge public outcry over the
infamous rider
to a massive congressional funding bill signed into law. The provision,
dubbed the “Monsanto Protection Act,” protects Monsanto's genetically
engineered crops from judicial review.
One way to counteract
Monsanto's outrageous influence over food policy is by passing mandatory
labeling laws for genetically modified food. Though Monsanto has
already spent many millions to quash labeling law initiatives, there is
increasing public support for it in the United States. Thirty states are
now considering labeling laws; New Jersey is one of them. (A draft of
the New Jersey bill is
here.)
Take Action Today: In addition to state initiatives, new
federal legislation is about to be introduced that would mandate the
labeling of foods made with genetically modified ingredients. Please
take a moment to contact your federal legislators about this critical
issue. The
Center for Food Safety has organized a convenient interface for
sending a message to your elected officials.
